Commitments

How we govern ourselves

  • SYP Confidence CIC is a Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales, Company No. 13455734.
  • Community activity, funds, records and decisions are governed for the CIC’s community purpose and kept appropriately separate from Think-I Ltd.
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, led by the Designated Safeguarding Lead and supported by clear reporting, safer recruitment, induction and supervision arrangements. Concerns are raised directly to safeguarding@sypccic.org, a restricted mailbox separate from general enquiries.
  • People receive access only to the information and systems required for their role; sensitive records require additional authorisation.
  • Practitioners, staff, workers, contractors and volunteers hold the correct written terms for their actual status, together with the qualifications, insurance and clearances their role requires, before starting relevant duties.
  • Activity involving physical contact, therapeutic techniques, or overnight or residential stays is subject to additional risk assessment, qualification, insurance, consent and supervision requirements, and is not offered until those are in place.
  • Events involving food or hospitality are planned with appropriate food safety, hygiene, allergen and dietary arrangements proportionate to the activity and setting.
  • Any payment to a director is made only where permitted by the articles, is reasonable and proportionate, is decided by the other directors without the interested director taking part, and is disclosed in the annual community interest report.
  • Delivery in a new borough or setting begins only when safeguarding, referral, venue and local partnership arrangements for that area are in place.
  • The board reviews risk, finance, safeguarding, data protection, quality and impact as the organisation develops, and files its annual accounts and CIC34 community interest report.
Transparency

Our relationship with Think-I Ltd

SYPC’s Founder and Executive Director, Denise Shaw, is also the sole director of Think-I Ltd — a separate company providing industry-facing mentoring, networking and confidence development for adults in the arts and in wider careers.

The two organisations serve different people, for different purposes, paid for in different ways. SYP Confidence CIC serves the community and is funded by grants, commissions and donations. Think-I serves individuals investing in their own professional development, and is paid for by them or their employer.

Their funds, records and decisions are kept separate. Any arrangement between them is agreed at arm’s length and documented, and the Executive Director does not take part in board decisions concerning Think-I. SYP Confidence CIC’s assets and funding are applied solely to its community purpose.

We state this openly because a funder or partner is entitled to know it, and because good governance means declaring an interest rather than waiting to be asked.

Policies

Policy register

These policies are maintained by the board and reviewed as the organisation develops. Copies are available to partners, commissioners and funders on request.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk, including reporting routes and the Designated Safeguarding Lead’s role.

Data protection

How personal information is collected, used, stored and protected, and how access to sensitive records is controlled.

Equality & inclusion

Our commitment to fair, inclusive access and to removing barriers to participation.

Health & safety

Risk assessment for venues, activities, events and hospitality, proportionate to the setting.

Complaints

How to raise a concern about SYPC and how it will be handled.

Volunteer & recruitment

Safer recruitment, induction, supervision and the written terms appropriate to each role.

Reporting

What we file

SYP Confidence CIC files annual accounts and a CIC34 community interest report with Companies House, setting out how the company has benefited the community, how it has involved stakeholders, and any payments made to directors. These are public documents and we are happy to provide copies directly.
